Pocket Studio


Pocket Studio is run by experienced silversmith and jeweller, Alison Jackson. From the fully equipped workshop she runs her own craft practice as well as sharing her knowledge through a program of short courses.

The studio is located in Queanbeyan, on the outskirts of Canberra. Jewellery and silversmithing courses run throughout the year and range from one off intensive day workshops through to six week courses.

Spoon Making Workshop


Two day weekend workshop

Working in nickel silver or copper, you will be guided through the process of cutting, forming and planishing to create your unique spoons. Students make two spoons to help reinforce each technique as you go. There is flexibility to make a few extra spoons depending on your designs and time permitting.

Each of your spoons will then be silver plated ready for use and a long life!

Taught by experienced silversmith, Alison Jackson it is an intense but rewarding workshop. A range of forming and finishing techniques will be demonstrated and examples of Alison's work will be on hand for you to see. The class is restricted to a maximum of four people to allow for lots of one to one tuition. Students will need to have the steady use of both arms and be comfortable hammering for long periods. It's a great introduction into the age old process of silversmithing!

Jewellery Courses


Whether you are just starting out or already have some experience. Our evening jewellery classes are the perfect way to explore a range of techniques and processes involved in jewellery making.

A small class size of just four students means plenty of attention to get the most out of each class. You will learn a range of basic jewellery techniques including forming, soldering, saw piercing, and finishing techniques. You can take advantage of a set project brief or work with project ideas that you might already have.

Courses run for six weeks.

Raising a Copper Bowl


Two day weekend workshop

Learn the age old technique of hand raising to create bowls and hollow forms in metal.

Using a variety of hammers and a selection of silversmithing tools you will be guided through each step of the hammering process to create your very own copper bowl. You will get lots of guidance and practice with the silversmithing techniques of sinking, raising and planishing, annealing and finishing. Taught by award winning silversmith Alison Jackson, it is an intensive but rewarding workshop. The class is restricted to a maximum of four people to allow for lots of one to one tuition.

Silversmithing is a very labour intensive process, with quite repetitive movements through the elbow and shoulder. Students will need to have the steady use of both arms and be comfortable hammering for long periods.

Suitable for both beginners and those with experience, be prepared for an intense yet rewarding workshop.
